Data Center Provider CyrusOne to Host Open House at New Texas Facility

CyrusOne completed the first phase of its 670,000 square foot Carrollton, Texas, data center at the beginning of August. The data center will be the largest in Texas, according to CyrusOne, and will be one of the most energy efficient facilities in the US.

According to a presentation at the 21st Century Data Center Symposium, Dallas has almost 70 multi tenant data centers and around 39 providers. Dallas and Houston are top markets in the state, while Austin and San Antonio are emerging markets. CyrusOne has data centers across all major Texas markets.

Fresh off filing its IPO intended to help reposition the company as a real estate investment trust, CyrusOne will show off its facility design and technologies at its official grand opening event.

Open houses are a given in launching a new facility, as they give the data center operator a chance to back up its claims by giving potential customers a look inside. This event will feature an acrobatic performance to demonstrate the amount of airspace in the facility. Airspace in a data center helps pull hot air away from machines, and CyrusOne hopes the performance will show just how much headroom its facility offers.

I provided context around the size and scale of Carrollton in terms of football fields, space shuttles, airplanes, and the Washington Monument. The format of our open house event demonstrates again, the size and scale we are working with, literally offering enough airspace to serve as the sky for a high flying spectacular acrobatic show. on its Modular design philosophy, which CyrusOne CTO Kevin Timmons describes in detail in his post from July on Data Center Knowledge, the facility will deliver 400,000 square feet of raised floor space about about 60,000 square feet of office space when it is completed.

The data center will deliver 60 megawatts of power capacity. CyrusOne expects to be awarded LEED certification later this month.

Last week, CyrusOne completed the steel framework of its Chandler, Arizona modular data center, which also employs its Modular approach.
